RCC Corrosion & Durability Assessment in Sulur, Coimbatore | Testoraa Labs

PM Testoraa Labs carried out a comprehensive structural condition assessment and durability evaluation of existing RCC buildings at Sulur, Coimbatore, on 11 July 2026.

The investigation was undertaken to identify the causes of premature reinforcement corrosion, concrete deterioration, cracking, and durability-related distress observed in the RCC structural elements.

The assessment included visual inspection, distress mapping, Rebound Hammer testing, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing, reinforcement cover survey, Half-Cell Potential measurements, carbonation-depth testing, concrete core compressive strength testing, and laboratory analysis of representative groundwater samples.

The integrated engineering evaluation indicated that the observed deterioration was predominantly associated with progressive reinforcement corrosion and durability-related mechanisms, rather than being primarily caused by structural overloading, foundation distress, or global structural instability.

Based on the investigation findings, suitable recommendations were provided for corrosion control, concrete repair, rehabilitation, durability improvement, and long-term protection of the affected RCC structural elements.
